Design education was born in Bauhaus in Germany in 1919. One hundred years later, the journey of design education reaches a new milestone with the opening of Vijaybhoomi School of Design in the foothills of Sahyadri mountains at Karjat, near India’s financial capital, Mumbai.

In one century, design education has evolved immensely. Most universities and design schools have adapted their curriculum as per the ever-changing global and local needs, situations, and technological advancement. But at Vijaybhoomi, we are looking at communication design in a new light. With the unprecedented technological advancement where virtually everybody is a content generator, the top-down approach of communication design is getting obsolete. Vijaybhoomi is turning the table and looking at the entire discipline bottom-up. Where the roots and traditions of communities form the foundation, where design empowers people.

Design is interdisciplinary and borrows from various disciplines of arts and sciences and integrates it to serve the purpose. The birth of smartphones, social media, apps, technological advancement in Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality has completely transformed the way we consume information and entertainment. The growing aspirations of the globalized world and the shrinking attention span of the global citizen has thrown new challenges to communication designers.

The Covid-19 global pandemic has forced us to look at life, industry, and our relevance to the world differently. It has changed the way we communicate. A good part of our communication design will be driven by Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Automation in the following years. Run-of-the-mill design graduates will struggle to keep themselves relevant and continuously employable. Uncertainty is the new normal. It demands a different kind of knowledge, skillsets, and attitude to set the sail as per the winds of change. Industry 4.0 demands Design Leader 4.0.

No other design school curriculum integrates courses from different domains like Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Law, Business Management and Environmental Sciences the way Vijaybhoomi School of Design does. The future is multi-disciplinary!

Vijaybhoomi School of Design offers a distinct and futuristic curriculum and pedagogy in Communication Design domain.
